Born in Kenya on July 6, Bali Brahmabhatt taught himself guitar and played it with is mates to earn a quick buck on the side. They combined English and Hindi music unawares that what they were doing was essentially “remix”. When he moved to the UK he became a part of a band called “Angrez”. His first remix album “Cha Party!” was popular in UK. He is famed to have brought the remix trend to India with his album “Patel Rap”.
Mohammad Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar were his inspirations. Bali Brahmabhatt, an NRI whose mother forced him to learn Gujarati to stay connected to his roots, used Gujarati rap in his album “Patel Rap”. His career took off with the runaway success of this 1991 album in the US. He recorded with Bappi Lahiri soon after and then in 1992 went on a North American concert tour with Bollywood superstars of the time, Sanjay Dutt and Sridevi.
Inimitable in style, his songs have always been catchy with numbers like “Kem Chhe” from “Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai” (2000), “Amchi Mumbai” from “Badmaash” (1998), “Pump Up the Bhangra” from “Ram Jaane” (1995),  “Amma Dekh Tera Munda” from “Stuntman” (1994) and “My Name Is Gurdeep” from “Waise Bhi Hota Hai - II” (2003).
His career in the Hindi film industry began with lending his voice to songs in films like “Chor Aur Chand”, “Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja” and “Bomb Blast” (1993). In 1997 he came out with the pop album “Tere Bin Jina Nahin” which was an instant hit with the romantics. As a playback singer he has worked in movies including “Ek Jind Ek Jaan” (2006), “Raaz” (2002), “Aa Ab Laut Chalen” (1999), “Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha” (1998), “Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi” (1996), “Gaddaar” (1995) and “Andolan” (1995). He has composed music for “Sab Kuchh Bhula Diya” in “Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam” (2002) and “Pyaar Zindagi Hai” (2001).
